The Arctic Food Lab is at the heart of the Oulu2026 programme, highlighting the clean local ingredients and the uniqueness of the Arctic food tradition in northern Finland. This is the story of northern nature – in flavours and experiences that cannot be experienced anywhere else.
Arctic Food Lab brings together the region’s food culture players, who together build a strong local food identity. Together, we tell international guests what Northern food culture is really about: flavours, stories and a sense of community that will stay in your mind and heart.
The main events of the Arctic Food Lab are the Summer Night’s Dinner and Arctic Tasting. In addition, hundreds of other events are being prepared with food at the heart of the programme.

Summer Night’s Dinner
The Summer Night’s Dinner is a communal and unforgettable experience that brings together local food culture, art and the joy of togetherness. This event invites everyone to share the flavours and stories of the North – regardless of background, age or life situation.
This year, the Summer Night’s Dinner will take place on 14th August!
Arctic Tasting
The Arctic Tasting is a delicious and adventurous event that will take you to the heart of northern food culture. This event invites you to taste the delicacies of local producers, restaurants – flavours born in the Arctic and prepared with great passion.
This year’s Arctic Tasting will take place from 24th to 27th September 2025.


We are the Culture – Open Call
Culture is everywhere in life – and now you can share your creativity with everyone! The European Capital of Culture year will be part of day-to-day life as well as celebrations. You can now suggest your own program to be included in the official Oulu2026 culture programme as well as apply for a targeted grant to realise your project within the Oulu2026 region. The aim is to enhance the diversity of the programme from the perspectives of creators, content as well as event locations.
In particular, we are looking for content that highlights food culture: events, experiences, community meals or projects that combine local flavours and stories. Let your ideas be tasted in the spirit of the centenary year!
