Oulujärvi Luxury Hideouts is a unique travel company. They focus on offering unforgettable travel experiences in the Oulujärvi and Rokua area. Within the company, luxury is seen as something extremely personal: it can mean a quiet moment on a pier by the lake for some, amazing service or the opportunity to stop by untouched nature for others.
Jenni Määttä is the founder and managing director of Oulujärvi Luxury Hideouts. She describes herself as a creator of bridges. The company is based on a wide network of partnerships, with whom she creates extraordinary experiences especially to international travelers. She works together with local property owners and companies, travel agencies and DMC-operators.
“The goal is that every guest gets to live like us locals for a moment and for them to get authentic experiences.”
Personal Luxury
The company has been up and running for around a year. Määttä says that the start has been excellent.
“The local people have been extremely interested in what I’m doing and want to work with me. We want to bring vitality, work and wellbeing to the Oulujärvi and Rokua region, but not at any price. We want to do it professionally, responsibly and by respecting the community and the nature of the area. We believe that when traveling is sustainable, it enriches everyone, both the guests and the locals.”
Määttä is aware that the word luxury often raises connotations of extravagance, but according to her, luxury within the company first and foremost represents the opportunity for time, space and the possibility to experience something real within our beautiful nature.
“Luxury is an extremely personal notion. For us, it means the peace of nature, being present, not having to rush and warm-hearted services. Our amazing properties add into this, but the most important thing is the feeling that the guest takes home with them.”
Love for the Home Region
Määttä is originally from the shores of Oulujärvi and love towards her own home was a big inspiration in creating her company.
“I am a person who’s creative and rich with ideas. It was important to me to do something that brings vitality to my home region. I can see that there’s huge potential for travel here, but it just hasn’t been utilized internationally yet.”
Oulujärvi Luxury Hideouts’ operations are based on personally tailored experiences, where the guests’ own wishes and interests play a big role. It’s important to Määttä that the guests get more than just accommodation.
“We don’t just give out the keys, but we welcome them and create an unforgettable experience together. Our amazing properties are a part of it, but personal service is also very important.”
The food service of the company builds on arctic flavors and local ingredients. The company’s personal touch is also apparent in creating dining experiences.
“We don’t have a traditional restaurant where we could guide our guests to have a fine dining dinner. Instead, we bring the experience to them. We can arrange it in their accommodations or even in the middle of nature.”
